Sermon 12: Hidden Richness
(III. The Way of Black Rice)
Beloved gatherers of the Grain,
Today we seek hidden richness — the depth that Black Rice carries within its darkness.
It held within it the memory of forgotten harvests, of unseen moons, and of emperors who guarded it jealously.
Depth often hides reward. What appears plain may hold the greatest treasure.
I. The Memory of Forgotten Harvests
Black Rice held within it the memory of forgotten harvests. The harvests that history did not record.
Hidden richness: the value that is not visible at first glance. The depth that rewards the patient seeker.
Emperors guarded it jealously. They knew. What is rare often carries what is precious.
We pass over the black grain for the white. We choose the familiar over the mysterious.
But those who seek wisdom find the hidden richness. They look past the surface.
II. Sweetness Within Strength
For Black Rice carries sweetness within strength, and mystery within nourishment.
The hidden richness is the paradox: sweetness and strength in one grain. Mystery and nourishment together.
We expect one or the other. We want our categories clear. Black Rice refuses the binary.
Depth often hides reward. The sweetness is not on the surface. It is within.
The one who tastes deeply discovers what the eye cannot see.
III. The Depth That Is Intended
It was not burned. It was deep; it was intended. The Sower made it so.
Hidden richness is not accident. It is design. The depth was meant to be there.
We mistake intention for error. We assume the dark means wrong. But it was intended.
Black Rice bears the wisdom of forgotten harvests. That wisdom is the hidden richness.
Seek what is hidden. The surface is only the beginning.
IV. Rarity Honored
And at the table it was served sparingly, that its rarity might be honored and its depth appreciated.
Hidden richness is not for mass consumption. It is for the moment of attention.
When we rush, we miss it. When we slow down, we taste it. When we honor the rare, we receive it.
The emperors guarded it jealously. They knew that what is precious is not to be squandered.
Depth often hides reward. But we must be willing to look, to taste, to receive.
V. Welcomed by Those Who Seek Wisdom
Black Rice shall be called Forbidden, yet it shall be welcomed by those who seek wisdom.
The seeker of wisdom does not fear the forbidden. The seeker looks for what is hidden.
Hidden richness rewards the curious. The one who asks, Is there more? The one who tastes again.
At the Final Feast, Black stands for celebration. The celebration of what was found in the depths.
Let us be seekers. Let us find the hidden richness. Let us welcome wisdom.
Let us seek hidden richness.
Look past the surface. Taste the depth. Welcome what the wise welcome.
For depth often hides reward, and the hidden richness awaits those who seek.
Go forth, seeking and receptive.
And may you find the hidden richness.
